Job summary

VillageMD in Connecticut is seeking a Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality nursing care for hematology/oncology patients in the Infusion Center. You will assess patients, manage symptoms and educate families in coordination with the care team.

Requirements include a CT nursing license, OCN chemotherapy/biotherapy card (or within first month), BLS, and strong problem-solving and prioritization skills. Documentation occurs in EMRs with emphasis on patient safety and experience.

Qualifications

• Current Connecticut nursing license.
• Current OCN Chemotherapy/Biotherapy card (or within first month of hire).
• Oncology Certified Nurse (ONC) - Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation is preferred.
• BLS certification.
• Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting skills.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate excellent ability to perform patient assessments, and provide symptom management as well as patient and family education.
• Practice safe administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy, infusions, and injections in accordance with protocols and guidelines.
• Assess and monitor patients during and after infusion therapy.
• Act as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care throughout various stages of treatment and follow-up.
• Triage infusion patients in collaboration with providers for symptom management, toxicity assessment and needs for referrals within the RN scope of practice.
• Assess learning needs and educates the patient and family in disease process, chemotherapy treatment plan, side effects, and side effect management.
• Document patient information, treatment plans, and progress in electronic medical records.
• Able to multi-task and manage a complex workload effectively to provide safe, high quality patient care.
• Participate and engage in continuous professional development, safety behaviors and focus on the patient experience.
• Communicate and work collaboratively with the patient, family and health care team members to develop and implement patient care.
• Deliver direct patient care within the scope of licensure and in accordance with Starling Physicians policy.
