Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) per diem to deliver diagnostic, therapeutic, and life-support respiratory care across inpatient and critical care areas, including ventilator management and patient assessment.

You will work under the supervision of the Respiratory Care Supervisor, follow evidence-based guidelines, document therapy results, and participate in discharge planning, while upholding safety standards and HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications

• Graduate with a minimum of an Associate's Degree from a program accredited by COARC/CAAHEP
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by NBRC
• Current, active Respiratory Care licensure in the District of Columbia
• Current BLS or ACLS certification through the American Heart Association
• Working knowledge of oxygen therapy delivery and associated equipment
• Proficiency in delivery of medical gases, airway management, mechanical ventilation, and diagnostic respiratory procedures
• Ability to recognize and respond to signs of respiratory distress; remains with the patient and escalates appropriately

Responsibilities

• Deliver respiratory care per physician orders and guidelines; explain procedures and maintain records
• Follow safety and infection control guidelines while setting up respiratory equipment
• Set up, monitor, and manage ventilators per policy
• Conduct procedures to achieve oxygenation, ventilation, and airway maintenance
• Evaluate patient response and modify therapy as needed for gas exchange and ventilation
• Review patient data and imaging to inform treatment decisions
• Collect clinical data and report untoward events to care team
• Contribute to discharge planning and educate patients and families
