Job summary

Easterseals New Jersey seeks a Residential Counselor to support adults with disabilities in Essex County, delivering daily living assistance and IRP-guided services in a group home setting.

This per diem position offers flexible shifts (minimum 8 hours per month) and participation in a comprehensive benefits package through Easterseals NJ, including health coverage, retirement options, paid time off, and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mental health, psychology, sociology, or social work, or related field from an accredited college or university.
• A combination of one or more years of college, plus related life or work experience equal to four years.
• High school diploma or GED plus four years of related work or life experience required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• This role requires driving as an essential function. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be subject to post-offer verification.

Responsibilities

• Support consumers in achieving personal care goals and addressing ongoing challenges.
• Educate consumers on medications, track logs, and conduct monthly audits.
• Coordinate services based on individual needs.
• Transport consumers using the company van as needed.
• Deliver high-quality care in line with Individual Rehabilitation Plans (IRP).
• Accurately document services within required timeframes using electronic health records.

What You’ll Do

The Residential Counselor supports the group home residents with daily living activities and delivers high quality services that will help consumers achieve measurable outcomes in accordance with Individual Rehabilitation Plans (IRP).

Who You Are

• Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mental health, psychology, sociology, or social work, human services or a related field from an accredited college or university OR
  • A combination of one (1) or more years’ of college, plus related life or work experience equal to four (4) years OR
  • High school diploma or GED plus four (4) years of related work or life experience required.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• This role requires driving as an essential function. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be subject to post-offer verification of driving eligibility consistent with company insurance requirements.
