Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital in Waltham is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse to join the operating room team. The OR RN provides intraoperative nursing care in both circulating and scrub roles, upholding safety and high-quality care in a fast-paced, family-centered environment.

Applicants should hold a BSN, have at least 2 years of OR experience with pediatric patients, and be eligible for Massachusetts licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience.
• Pediatric experience required; orthopedic experience preferred; EPIC experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, and provide intraoperative nursing care based on the physiological and emotional needs of patients and families, in accordance with perioperative standards.
• Function as a liaison among patients, families, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary care team.
• Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures and ensure readiness of equipment, supplies, and instrumentation.
• Perform circulating and scrub responsibilities while maintaining compliance with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
• Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record.
• Provide patient- and family-centered care, anticipating individualized education and support needs.
• Manage resources efficiently to support safe patient care and smooth workflow within the surgical suite.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, communicate safety concerns, and use information technology to support clinical decision‑making and coordination of care.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues to provide high-quality, culturally sensitive, and developmentally appropriate care.
• Work 8- and 10-hour shifts, with rotation, short call requirements as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing required

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room experience
• Pediatric experience required
• Orthopedic experience preferred
• EPIC experience preferred

Licensure/Certifications

• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required
• PALS preferred

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good‑faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
