Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Corrections seeks a Registered PRN Nurse for the State Correctional Institution Coal Township. You will provide essential nursing care and support the health and safety of inmates with diverse medical and behavioral needs.

Per diem shifts are available (6:00–14:30, 14:00–22:30, 22:00–06:30) with on-call intermittent work. Starting hourly pay is $51.53, with retirement benefits and strict safety protocols in place.

Qualifications

• Active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• Must obtain PA RN licensure within 1 year if holding a temporary practice permit.
• PA residency requirement is waived for this title.
• Eligible if within 60 days of nursing school completion.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Background check and CJIS compliance required.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care and treatment for individuals with medical, behavioral, or developmental needs in a correctional setting.
• Implement care plans by checking vital signs, administering medications, and performing treatments.
• Assist clinicians during exams, clinics, tests, immunizations, and screenings.
• Administer first aid, CPR, or AED procedures and refer patients for advanced care as needed.
• Document information, maintain medical records, and complete required reports.
• Sterilize instruments, manage inventory, and maintain stocked treatment areas.
• Participate in training and maintain required skills per policy updates.
