Job summary

The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking an experienced and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Emergency Medicine team in a per diem capacity. The PA/NP will work in collaboration with board-certified emergency medicine physicians to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced emergency department setting.

Qualifications

• 3 years clinical PA/NP experience preferred; or 2 years plus completion of an approved post graduate emergency medicine training program.
• New graduates are not able to be considered for this position.

• Work closely with ED attendings in a collaborative care model, staffing all ESI levels 1, 2, and 3s
• Ordering and calling appropriate consults to coordinate specialty emergency care, inclusive of calling hospitalists for admissions
• Ability to multitask by seeing and managing multiple active patients at a time
• Document HPIs, clinical findings, interpretation of labs and imaging, disposition and treatment plans accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system (EPIC)

Responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries, performing procedures, interpreting diagnostic tests, and collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in high-pressure environments.

Experience

3 years clinical PA/NP experience preferred; or 2 years plus completion of an approved post graduate emergency medicine training program. The ideal candidate will have clinical emergency medicine and/or urgent care experience. New graduates are not able to be considered for this position.

Education & Licensure

PA: Master's degree required; Doctorate degree preferred. Current (or eligible) licensure as a Physician Assistant from the VT State Board of Medical Practice. Current certification by the NCCPA.

NP: Master's degree required; Doctorate degree preferred. Current (or eligible) licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) from the VT State Board of Nursing. Current ENP or FNP certification by ANCC or AANP.
