Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Per Diem Part Time Assistant Athletic Trainer assists the Head Athletic Trainer with the preventative care, injury evaluation, first aid, treatment and rehabilitation of all student-athletes and athletic teams as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  1. Administers first aid treatment to injured varsity athletes (CPR, bandages, basic first aid).
  2. Assists in development of an injury prevention program (tapes ankles, stretching exercises, massages, etc.).
  3. Assists Head Athletic Trainer in providing athletic training coverage for all varsity practices and home games.
  4. Provides guidance and assistance to student-athletes on a range of personal issues, as required.
  5. Assists in monitoring and coordinating training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
  6. Directs injured players, as needed, to obtain medical treatment.
  7. Determines suitability of injured athletes to continue sports participation.
  8. Assists through treatment, best way for athlete to return to active participation.
  9. Represents the athletics program to various institutional programs and to government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public.
  10. Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA rules, regulations, bylaws, constitutions and related university rules, regulations, and policies.

Additional Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training and BOC certification as an ATC.
  2. Must be licensed to practice as an ATC in NJ.
  3. Must possess the ability to foster a cooperative environment.
  4. Must be able to organize and coordinate.
  5. Must have the ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  6. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  7. Must have a valid driver’s license and have the ability to work on nights & weekends.

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree preferred. Should possess working knowledge of the NCAA. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
