Overview

Job Summary: The MRI Technologist primarily performs radiographic examinations, receives patients, explains method of procedure, positions patients, selects and sets technical factors, sets up and adjusts accessory equipment required, and makes exposures necessary for the requested examinations. The MRI Technologist performs radiographic procedures which vary in complexity because of the varied anatomy and the physical and emotional condition of the patient. Individuals in this position will be a certified diagnostic radiologic technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.). Individuals perform x-ray procedures which vary in complexity because of the varied anatomy and the physical and emotional condition of the patient.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of digital MRI equipment and confidence with the manipulation of imaging techniques according to patient body habitus, physical abilities and conditions, and body area being imaged.
  • Demonstrate consistency in positioning anatomy and upholding ethics of minimizing radiation exposure to patient.
  • Collect necessary patient information and thoroughly document to prepare radiologist for optimal exam interpretation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and produce high quality images while working independently.
  • Assist facility staff in scheduling patients for examinations in a manner to allow for optimal flexibility of scheduling while maintaining high volume throughput.
  • Trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and basic life support techniques.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and initiate procedures to replenish stock and to receive stock supplies.
  • Independently perform standard examinations. Confer with radiologists to establish requirements for nonstandard examinations.
  • Maintain paper and electronic patient records.
  • Ensure equipment is in proper working order. Report equipment malfunctions, initiate and coordinate service support.
  • Transfer patients using proper lifting techniques, requesting lifting assistance as needed.
  • Receive and secure the confidence and cooperation of patients during procedures.
  • Uphold HIPAA standards.
  • Function as a contributing member in a team environment treating co-workers with courtesy, professionalism and respect.
  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of courtesy and professionalism to patients and referring physicians.
  • Assist manufacturer representatives and biomedical engineers in the calibration and troubleshooting of all equipment associated with the MRI unit.
  • Participate in presentations and demonstrations relating to the technical and clinical operation of the MRI facility.
Required Skills / Abilities
  • Positioning patients properly for their exam.
  • Identifying equipment issues and correcting and/or notifying supervisor.
  • Proficiency in communication.
  • Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices.
  • Knowledge in EPIC, Philips IntelliSpace, HIS, and RIS systems.
Education and Experience
  • ARRT (R) certification, or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • ARRT (M) certification, or obtained within one year of hire.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in radiography.
  • Completion of BLS from American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
  • Degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program.
  • Oregon Board of Medical Imaging Certification (Temporary or Permanent Required).
Physical Requirements
  • Standing 4-6 hours/day, walking, stooping, and bending.
  • Ability to move equipment and transfer patients.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or less.
