Job summary

Saint John Hospital, Inc. seeks a Public Safety Officer to perform hospital security duties on a per diem basis at St Johns Hospital in Leavenworth, KS.

The role includes electronic surveillance, patrols, incident response, and collaboration with the Environment of Care Committee to support a multidisciplinary safety approach. Preferred candidates have healthcare security experience, a high school diploma, and an IAHSS certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• IAHSS certification preferred for healthcare security.
• Valid state driver’s license upon hire and maintained.
• Current DMV record may be requested.

Responsibilities

• Access Control and Patrols: monitor entrances, exits, and restricted areas; conduct regular interior and exterior patrols to deter theft, violence, or unsafe behavior
• Emergency Response: respond to emergency codes and assist with crowd control, evacuation, or containment as needed
• De-escalation and Conflict Management: intervene in disruptive situations using de-escalation techniques to calm agitated patients or visitors, often in collaboration with clinical staff
• Patient and Visitor Assistance: escort patients or visitors safely through the facility, provide directions, and assist with lost-and-found or personal property issues
• Incident Documentation: write detailed reports on incidents, accidents, or safety hazards and report findings to supervisors or risk management
