Job summary

VEG is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinarian to join our team. You will handle emergencies from routine cases to complex surgeries, including exotics, with a culture rooted in mentorship and continuous learning.

You will work alongside a dedicated team in a fast-paced setting, on floor leadership, and with access to VEG Education programs and CE opportunities. As a vital ER leader, you will deliver high-quality care, communicate treatment options clearly, and contribute to an environment

Qualifications

• A DVM or equivalent degree.
• Live and breathe emergency medicine, including emergency surgery and endoscopy.
• Thrive in team-oriented environments.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and lift up to 25 kg; able to support up to 40 kg.

Responsibilities

• Answer medical questions over the phone.
• See patients immediately as part of the VEG Triage and VEG Spikes process.
• Gather signalment, presenting complaint, vitals, and exam findings.
• Perform physical exams, ultrasounds, X‑rays, bloodwork, and biopsies as needed.
• Create diagnostic and therapeutic plans and communicate options to customers.
• Prepare estimates and present them to customers.
• Document and review medical records for accuracy.
• Explain the value of tests and treatments to customers.
• Perform minor and major emergency surgeries and endoscopic procedures.
• Educate customers on aftercare and prevention.
