Job summary

Cornell Health in Ithaca, NY is seeking a Per Diem Clinician to provide ambulatory primary care to Cornell students. Responsibilities include direct medical care, collaboration with health professionals, and ongoing patient support in a primary care setting.

Working collaboratively with other Cornell Health departments, medical staff aspire to a data-driven approach to provide high-quality, accessible, cost-effective, culturally-sensitive, and developmentally-appropriate care and services to Cornell’s student population, meeting the routine and urgent needs of patients.

Medical Clinicians (MD/DO or APP) at Cornell Health provide direct ambulatory primary patient care to students of the university and arrange for comprehensive care for a patient's holistic needs – including their medical, mental health, emotional and social issues. Medical clinicians collaborate with community and other Cornell Health colleagues, health associates, nursing staff, ancillary and support staff, mental health professionals, physical therapists and health educators to provide comprehensive care to students as patients. In their clinical work with students, Medical Clinicians are involved with the developmental, educational, emotional, psychological, social and academic aspects of students’ lives, and often are called upon to interact with parents, faculty and other professionals, both on and off campus.

*MD/DO Pay: $155.00/hour

*NP/PA Pay: $80.00/hour

Please note that this is a temporary per diem/casual position that will work on an as needed basis, no more than 19 hours per week and a minimum of 32 hours per academic semester. This position is OSHA category BBP1; TB1; ERG2. This position is not eligible for benefits or visa sponsorship.

Required Qualifications:

• M.D. or D.O. with current NYS license
• BC/BE in a primary care or other appropriate specialty

OR

• Advance practice nurse with current NYS license, BC/BE in primary care or other appropriate specialty
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• Graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program
• A master’s degree in a clinical specialty or equivalent experience
• AANP/ANCC or nurse practitioner certification is required within one year of employment

OR

• Graduation from an accredited physician’s assistant program
• A master’s degree in a clinical specialty or equivalent experience
• Current registration to practice as a physician’s assistant in NYS

AND

• Between 2 and 5 years of primary care or acute care clinical experience
• Knowledge and use of an electronic health record management system
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with knowledge and sensitivities appropriate to working with a highly diverse, young adult population
• CPR-BLS level certification achieved within one year of employment and maintained biannually, as applicable
• Ability to provide full range primary care inclusive of minor acute care, sexual and reproductive care, and mental health care
• Experience working directly with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest in and concern for health problems encountered in a campus community, including medical and mental health issues and areas where they intersect.
• Ability to coordinate with colleagues to maintain continuity of patient care and ensure the appropriate management and treatment of medical problems when not physically present at the health center.
• Desire to communicate electronically with patients.
• Experience with and desire to work in a team-based environment, working with varied and diverse healthcare staff in a patient centered medical home.
