Job description

The Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing (MSSON) is looking for students to work as Peer Tutors, providing support for students in a variety of nursing courses. Successful applicants will be able to provide support for several courses (e.g., Health Assessment, Pathophysiology, Dosage, Pharmacology, Foundations, Psych/Mental Health, Adult Health, OB, Pediatrics, Critical Care).

Duties may include (but are not limited to):

  • Staffing designated drop-in hours for tutoring
  • Leading review sessions before exams
  • Meeting one-on-one with students referred by MSSON faculty to assist with subject area content and basic study strategies
  • Keeping a record of all meetings and sessions and providing a weekly report to supervisor
  • Promoting resources and support available through the MSSON (e.g., Academic Success Coach)
  • Developing resource materials suitable for distribution to students
  • Completing other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean and Undergraduate Department Chair

Federal Work/Study earnings will be paid biweekly in the form of a check or direct deposit payable to the student. This award does not credit to the account of the student as payment toward University charges.

Required Qualifications:

Due to extensive contact with students, faculty, and staff, a professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidentiality is essential. Students should also demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as maturity and dependability. Academic requirements include:

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • Content area GPA of at least 3.5
  • Letter of support from a faculty member from relevant course(s)
