Job Description

The Maternal and Child Health Program (MACH) at the Institute for Human Development (IHD) at the university of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).

This position serves as the Peer TA Specialist for the UMKC-IHD Maternal and Child Health Program's PRISM Technical Assistance Center (TAC). The Specialist provides technical assistance, training, and implementation support to maternal peer recovery programs across Missouri, leveraging lived experience and peer support expertise to strengthen services for pregnant and postpartum individuals affected by substance use and mental health conditions. The Specialist supports workforce development, facilitates Communities of Practice, develops training and educational resources, and serves as a subject matter expert in peer recovery support, helping ensure TAC activities remain recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and responsive to community needs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the TAC's subject matter expert on peer recovery support, recovery-oriented systems of care, and lived-experience engagement.


• Co-facilitate Communities of Practice (CoP), peer learning collaboratives, and other networking opportunities for peer support staff and program teams.


• Assist in identifying workforce development needs and training priorities through needs assessments, stakeholder engagement, and ongoing communication with sites.


• Provide guidance and mentorship to peer navigation staff, supervisors, and program leaders.


• Collaborate with TAC team members to develop toolkits, resource guides, fact sheets, and other training materials for program sites and community partners.


• Participate in site visits, virtual consultations, and implementation support activities as needed.


• Support the development and dissemination of best practices, promising practices, and lessons learned across sites.


• Promote meaningful inclusion of individuals with lived experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation activities.


• Assist with outreach and engagement activities to strengthen partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, behavioral health agencies, and recovery support organizations.


• Other duties as assigned

This position is 100% grant/externally funded and contingent on continued funding.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Peer Support Specialist (or equivalent Missouri-recognized peer support certification).


• Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Peer Support Specialist, Recovery Coach, Peer Navigator, or in a comparable peer support role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting peer workforce development, onboarding, or supervision.


• Familiarity with maternal health, behavioral health, recovery support services, and systems navigation.


• Experience participating in cross-sector collaborations involving healthcare, behavioral health, child welfare, public health, or community-based organizations.


• Experience providing mentorship, coaching, or technical assistance is preferred


• Demonstrated experience working with maternal populations, individuals with SUD, and/or individuals with co-occurring behavioral health conditions


• Knowledge of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches to care.


• Experience facilitating groups, trainings, workshops, Communities of Practice, or peer learning activities.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing educational materials, training curricula, or resource guides.


• Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers, providers, community organizations, and state partners.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $23.07 to $25.00 hourly

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
