Job summary

Rimrock Trails in Central Oregon seeks a Peer Support Specialist (PSS)/Treatment Aide (TA) to support teens in a residential program. You will help implement individualized plans, use motivational interviewing, and provide cognitive, behavioral, and emotional support to residents.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, participate in daily schedules, and assist with class activities, community outings, and safety protocols to promote recovery and well-being.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience with teens is preferred.
• Ability to document and communicate professionally.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with the team.
• Provide cognitive, behavioral, and emotional support to clients.
• Engage in crisis de-escalation and trauma-informed interventions.

Job Summary:

Join our team of helping professionals as a Peer Support Specialist (PSS)/Treatment Aide (TA), supporting the recovery and growth of teens in our residential treatment program. As a Treatment Aide, you'll work closely with our team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, using evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing. You'll also provide cognitive, behavioral, and emotional support to help our clients overcome substance use and mental health challenges.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

As a PSS/TA, you'll play a vital role in creating a supportive and caring environment for our clients. You'll participate in daily activities, supervise daily routines, and work closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for each client. Your passion for helping others will shine through as you:

• Utilize Collaborative Problem Solving, Motivational Interviewing and other Trauma Informed, patient-centered evidenced based practices in all interactions with clients.
• Establish a helping relationship with clients characterized by warmth, respect, genuineness, sincerity, and empathy.
• Provide supervision of client activities and utilize evidenced-based cognitive, behavioral, and emotional support practices to aid the Counselors provision of treatment services.
• Works with clients in groups and one-on-one to provide hope, encouragement, support, self- determination, and connection to the community.
• Provides recovery training and promotes client resiliency, and self-advocacy skills. Familiarize yourself with cases through a review of referral information, assessments, regular review of shift notes and communication with the treatment team.
• Demonstrate and maintain clear and consistent boundaries with clients and families.
• Engage in crisis de-escalation and trauma-informed interventions that promote client's improved behavioral and symptom management.
• Provide an empathic, compassionate, and supportive approach with all client interactions, ensuring confrontation is not used.
• Work closely with other program staff as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team and is dedicated to a healthy work environment for the benefit of employees and clients served.
• Model consistent and healthy communication and therapeutic relationship boundaries.
• Communicate and collaborate with primary counselor, and treatment team regarding status of client and treatment progress.
• Ensure the safety of clients by making rounds for bed checks and being aware of client locations at all times (maintain line of sight).
• Ensure all doors are locked at all times unless clients are in that room and locking immediately after they exit.
• Ensure clients are never alone or have unsupervised access to the staff station, kitchen, or any other unauthorized area.
• Facilitate the day-to-day residential schedule.
• Assist in the classroom with academic instructions and behavior management, as necessary.
• Supervise and participate in activities with residential clients, including sports, games, arts and crafts and community outings.
• Transport residents to medical appointments, self-help groups, etc. maintaining safety and supervision.
• Administer and document medications under the direction of the Medical Director.
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing and maintain accurate and confidential documentation in client files.
• Record and document observations regarding client behavior in the milieu and individual progress toward identified goals in a timely manner, including Incident Reports as necessary.
• Complete filing, data entry and clerical tasks as directed.
• Answer phones, direct calls and take messages in a professional and respectful manner.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of all work areas.
• Model appropriate behavior and help train and orient new staff to the program.
• Conduct UA’s and perform person searches.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Possess personal and professional integrity.
• Responsible, dependable, ethical.
• Calm demeanor and the ability to address conflict and challenging behavior with compassion and kindness.
• Strong desire for helping young people change their lives, find hope, and build health through holistic wellness and recovery from addiction.
• Enjoys the challenge and finds gratification in working with and helping teens with challenging behaviors.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current Traditional Health Worker Certification (Recovery Mentor, Youth Support Specialist or Peer Support Specialist) or has the required qualifications to obtain certification (i.e. has personal of family personal experience in receiving addictions or mental health services and are in recovery).
• Preferred Bachelor's degree in Social Services or related fields.
