Western Tidewater Community Service Board is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to provide recovery-focused support across outpatient and inpatient settings. You will model recovery, share experiences, and advocate for consumers while helping them pursue ISP-defined goals.

This full-time, non-exempt position requires a certified or soon-to-be-certified peer recovery specialist, lived mental health experience, and a valid driver’s license. Join a mission-driven team in Smithfield, VA.

Qualifications

• Be a certified Peer Recovery Specialist or gain certification within the first 3 months of hire
• Must have lived behavior health experience
• Hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable DMV record
• Experience in using various computer software applications and/or Electronic Health Record

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support services to consumers with behavioral health issues , substance abuse, and/or intellectual disabilities
• Function as a role model to peers
• Exhibit competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills, serve as a consumer advocate, and provide consumer information and peer support for consumers in outpatient and inpatient settings
• Assists and guides consumers toward achievement of specific goals identified by the consumer and specified in the ISP
