Job summary

Options for Southern Oregon seeks a Peer Support Specialist to deliver peer support services within an alcohol and drug recovery program. You will use Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) and provide clinical and administrative support to clients, partners, and the community.

You will work in office and community settings, staying compliant with HIPAA, and participate in on-the-job training to strengthen recovery support skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and understanding of the population served.
  • Certification training for HIPAA and confidentiality preferred or required.
  • Ability to learn to use the EHR system and MS Office apps.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support services to individuals in recovery programs.
  • Work as a role model and advocate, offering information and support.
  • Operate in both office and community settings and utilize FIT in services.
  • Participate in required trainings and maintain documentation in EHR.

Overview

The Peer Support Specialist is an active member of the team and provides peer support services to individuals in the alcohol and drug dependencies recovery program. This position provides a wide range of clinical and administrative services to community partners, Options’ clients, and people seeking services.Utilizes Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) in delivery of client services. Options provides on the job training and supervision for FIT.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30am- 5:30pm (May include some evenings)
Responsibilities

Functions as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as an advocate, providing information and peer support for individuals in outpatient setting. The Peer Support Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages, from adolescents through adults, in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process.

This position works both in the office and in the community.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and a general understanding of the population served. Some post-secondary coursework preferred.

Self-identify as an individual in recovery from a substance use disorder who meets the abstinence requirements for recovering staff in substance use disorders treatment and recovery programs

Knowledge and skills sufficient for establishing effective relationships with clients who have addictions in order to support them in their own recovery.

Attend required trainings for certification when available.

Certification prior to hire preferred.

Candidates must be able to use e-mail, compose documents, save and locate documents electronically, and learn to use our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Proficiency in Word and other MS Office applications preferred.

Must pass state-required background and DMV checks; possess a valid OR driver's license and a satisfactory driving record to be approved for driving rights. Candidate must be able to work independently and flexibly, under general supervision.

Possess mature attitude and sensitivity to the needs of people who have a chronic mental illness; understanding of HIPAA laws regarding confidentiality of privileged information; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to work independently and with staff as agency needs dictate.
