Job summary

Behavioral Health Services North Inc. is seeking a dedicated Peer Support Specialist in Morrisonville, NY. This full-time role focuses on promoting coping skills and recovery-oriented support, using trauma-informed, non-clinical methods to help individuals toward long-term recovery. Work schedule includes Monday to Friday 8:00–16:00 with one evening shift from 23:00?

Qualifications

  • High-school graduate or GED.
  • Ability to obtain OMH Peer Certification or Recovery Peer Advocate Certification within 90 days of employment
  • Complete OMH Partnering for Safety & CPR training within 90 days of employment
  • Personal experience with Mental Health recovery-oriented treatment.
  • Extensive knowledge with PC applications and electronic medical records strongly preferred.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation required for local and regional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support and care to those engaged in services or treatment
  • Identifies healthy community opportunities for individuals to socialize and interact; promote these opportunities as directed by the care coordinator or other care provider
  • Connects and supports individuals during treatment
  • Assists in the delivery of evidenced based interventions
  • Assists in the development of and adherence to community safety plans
  • Informs individuals of OMH and OASAS Participant Rights upon request
  • Participates in team meetings and trainings as required
  • Understands Crisis Team policy and procedure manual, Agency and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Participates in the writing and timely completion of any required documentation in accordance with state/federal regulations and agency policies and procedures
  • Participates in care planning and coordination meetings to facilitate care process
  • As assigned, sees individuals who are an immediate crisis to curtail emergency visits and/or inpatient admissions
  • Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities
  • Supports collaboration and teamwork by sharing information and responding to questions/requests from rehabilitation team and other support providers
  • Maintains client confidentiality and confidential health information
  • Promotes service recipients' growth and development
  • Participates in meetings as scheduled
  • Assists with training new staff members
  • Is willing to work flexible hours corresponding to the needs of the program
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Your role at BHSN:

As a Peer Support Specialist at BHSN, you will promote skills for coping with and managing behavioral health symptoms while facilitating the utilization of natural resources and the enhancement of recovery-oriented principles ( e.g. hope and self-efficacy, and community living skills). Peer support uses trauma-informed, non-clinical assistance to achieve long-term recovery from a behavioral health disorder.

Work Schedule: M-F. 8-4 One evening shift from 11-7
