  • Provide emotional support, encouragement, and guidance for individuals in recovery.

  • Assist clients in identifying community resources like mental health and housing programs.
  • Maintain accurate records of peer support interactions.
  • Provide information on coping strategies and wellness tools.
  • Navigate healthcare, criminal justice, and social service systems with clients.
  • Collaborate with other providers and community organizations to improve access to services.
  • Adhere to confidentiality policies and organizational guidelines.
  • Participate in supervision, training, and professional development.
  • Conduct outreach to connect with individuals who may benefit from peer support.
  • Advocate for rights and needs of individuals in recovery.
  • Lead peer support groups and wellness workshops.
  • Educate communities on mental health, substance use recovery, and stigma reduction.

Position Summary

The Peer Support Specialist provides non-clinical, strengths-based support to individuals facing mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or other life difficulties. Drawing on personal lived experience, the Peer Support Specialist fosters hope, empowerment, and self-determination while assisting individuals in navigating recovery and accessing necessary services.

Essential Functions
  • Share lived experiences and personal insights to build trust and rapport.
  • Offer emotional support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals in recovery
  • Empower individuals to set and achieve personal recovery goals.
  • Promote self-advocacy and independence in accessing healthcare, employment, housing, and social support services.
  • Assist individuals in identifying and utilizing available community resources, including mental health services, substance use treatment, housing, and employment programs.
  • Maintain accurate records of peer support interactions and services provided.
  • Provide information on coping strategies, wellness tools, and self-care practices.
  • Help individuals navigate complex systems, such as healthcare, criminal justice, and social services.
  • Work collaboratively with other support services, healthcare providers, and community organizations to enhance service accessibility.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines, confidentiality policies, and organizational protocols.
  • Participate in supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Conduct outreach and engagement activities to connect with individuals who may benefit from peer support.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals in recovery.
  • Lead peer support groups, wellness workshops, and recovery-oriented activities.
  • Educate individuals, families, and communities on topics related to mental health, substance use recovery, and stigma reduction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor, which are consistent with the position and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
