Job summary

Arizona Youth Partnership seeks a Peer Support Specialist to create and facilitate support groups for pregnant and parenting mothers in the LAHMB program. You will register participants, schedule groups, provide peer support and use a trauma-informed approach.

Responsibilities include facilitation of discussions, trainings, reporting, and community representation. Some evenings/weekends required; valid AZ driver license and travel may be needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or ability to obtain it.
  • Knowledge of rural Arizona, prevention and substance use issues.
  • Parenting experience preferred.
  • Excellent presentation, oral and written communication; computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create and facilitate support groups for pregnant and parenting mothers.
  • Collaborate with LAHMB staff to register participants and schedule groups.
  • Provide encouragement and peer support; use trauma-informed approach.
  • Attend trainings; facilitate discussions, modules and activities with fidelity.
  • Assist with reporting and fundraising reporting; represent AZYP at events.
  • Set up Nalox-Box kits and participate in evaluation tools.

TITLE: Peer Support SpecialistHOURS: 40 hours per week, some evenings, weekends (as needed)SUPERVISED BY: Director of Community ImpactSALARY: Full-Time, $19/hourDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Peer Support Specialist is responsible for creating and facilitating Support Groups for pregnant and parenting mothers who have participated in the AZYP Linking Actions for Healthy Mothers and Babies (LAHMB) program.Collaborate with LAHMB Staff to register participants.Participate in the LAHMB Consortium.Schedule and facilitation Peer Support Groups.Provide encouragement and support to participants to engage in activities.Attend and complete peer support certification trainings as required.Facilitate group discussions, module presentations, and role-playing activities with fidelity to selected programming.Facilitate Peer Support Groups.Assist program participants in the development of confidence and skills related to parenting.Facilitate groups in an open and welcoming environment.Provide direct peer support based on your own lived experience.Help participants understand and employ coping and recovery skills.Utilize a trauma-informed approach in all aspects of the project.Attend community, coalition, agency, network, and other meetings as required.Complete all fund source and AZYP reporting requirements.Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of actions and outcomes for all funding streams.Represent AZYP at public events, as directed, to promote prevention efforts.Set up and manage Nalox-Box kits throughout service area.Implement evaluation tools with support and direction from the LAHMB Data Coordinator.Complete outreach to bolster Peer Support model.Participate in training as required by funder or AZYP.Other duties as assigned by supervisor.High School Diploma or GEDAssociate degree or higher (preferred)Certification or ability to attain certification as a Peer Support SpecialistKnowledge of rural Arizona, prevention, alcohol and substance use and abuse by youth, young adults, and adults.Parenting experience.Excellent presentation, oral, written communication & computer skills; knowledge of Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point.Initiating and independent worker.
