Job summary

Family & Children's Services in Oklahoma City/Norman area seeks a dedicated Peer Recovery Support Specialist. You will draw on your lived experience to provide hope, support, and guidance to individuals in recovery, linking them to services and community resources.

You will collaborate with clinicians, conduct group and one-on-one sessions, help clients develop recovery goals and safety plans, and maintain accurate documentation in line with program standards.

Qualifications

• Must be a high school graduate or HS equivalent.
• Experience as a recipient of mental health services for mental illness and working with adults.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and/or group peer support to individuals recovering from mental health and/or substance use challenges.
• Share personal experiences to build trust, inspire hope, and empower clients.
• Help clients develop personalized recovery/safety/stabilization plans and set goals.
• Assist individuals in navigating the healthcare system and connecting to resources.
• Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other professionals to ensure holistic, person-centered care.
• Provide education on recovery and wellness, encouraging active participation in recovery.
• Assist clients in developing self-advocacy skills and accessing support networks.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all services in line with standards.
• May facilitate peer-led recovery groups and workshops as needed.

Job description

This position is located in OKC/ Norman area.

As a Peer Recovery Support Specialist, you will use your lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery to provide hope, support, and guidance to individuals in the recovery process. You will work as part of an integrated care team to deliver peer-based recovery support, helping individuals develop recovery goals, navigate treatment services, and connect with community resources.

Position Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and/or group peer support to individuals recovering from mental health and/or substance use challenges.
• Share personal experiences to build trust, inspire hope, and foster a sense of empowerment in clients.
• Assist individuals in developing personalized recovery/safety/stabilization plans, including setting goals and identifying strategies for overcoming barriers.
• Help clients navigate the healthcare system, including linking them to treatment services, social services, housing, and other community resources.
• Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other professionals to ensure holistic, person-centered care.
• Provide education on recovery and wellness, encouraging individuals to take an active role in their recovery.
• Assist clients in developing self-advocacy skills and accessing support networks.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services provided, in accordance with CCBHC standards.
• May facilitate peer-led recovery groups and workshops depending on program needs.
• Participate in ongoing professional development, training, and supervision.
• Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in all client interactions.

Certifications/Licenses

• ODMHSAS Case Manager I Certification, completed within 60 days of eligibility.
• Must possess a valid Driver License and satisfactory driving record to use agency and/or personal automobile to travel to locations other than primary office and/or for the transportation of clients.
• PRSS Certification Required

Safety Sensitive Job Classification

This job is classified as a "safety-sensitive" position as defined by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act. Due to the "safety-sensitive" classification, an employee in this position would be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana per the Family & Children's Services Drug Free Workplace Policy, including possible revocation of a job offer or dismissal from employment.
