Job summary

Straight and Narrow, headquartered in Paterson, NJ, seeks a Peer Recovery Specialist for the Women’s Program. This full-time role includes Monday–Friday hours, location across multiple NJ sites, and a salary range of $20.00–$22.00 per hour.

The PRS provides non-clinical recovery support, advocacy, mentoring, and education to clients and families, aligned with recovery principles. Benefits include comprehensive coverage and licensure supervision options.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One year of related experience.
• Must be an active Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in NJ or within 6 months of licensure.
• Must have a car and NJ driver's license with good driving history.
• Detail-oriented, flexible with ability to work independently.
• Must be computer literate and able to type.

Responsibilities

• Build a community of clients and staff supportive of parents' growth and recovery.
• Assist in creating social activities and a positive environment for clients and children.
• Assist clients in accessing Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) when applicable.
• Participate in events and trainings for clients, families, and caregivers; provide advocacy by accompanying clients to meetings.
• Encourage client leadership and development of self-advocacy and recovery support systems.
• Coordinate with community organizations to support families transitioning back to less intensive services.

We provide innovative and compassionate services to individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. We are looking for dedicated, caring and compassionate people to work in our Residential/Outpatient Treatment Facilities and Community Programs.

Peer Recovery Specialist (Women's Program)

Hours: Monday- Friday (rotating weekends)

Location: All Straight & Narrow Locations (Passaic, Secaucus, Paterson)

Regular Salary: $20.00-$22.00/Hr

Job Summary:

Certified Peer Recovery Specialists give non-clinical assistance to help fellow peers in their recovery from alcohol and drug use related problems through Advocacy, Mentoring and Education, Recovery and Wellness Support, using the established ethical principles and training. They may be in their own recovery, been an affected family member, friend or others using their own experiences in combating drug and alcohol problems. Peers are defined as any anyone requesting help for a drug and alcohol problem. The PRS functions as an integral part of the parent’s/families’ recovery process while in treatment and post discharge. The PRS is aligned with the 10 Guiding principles of recovery.

Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1. The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) PRS works to build a community of both clients and staff that is supportive and conducive to parent’s growth and recovery. Assist in building supportive relationships with parents and guardians of children receiving services from the Department of Children and Families (DCF.)
2. The PRS assist in the creation and implementation of social activities and help create a positive environment for client and child/ren.
3. When applicable, assist client in accessing Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT)
4. Participate in all special events and training geared towards clients, families and caregivers. Provide direct advocacy for clients by accompanying them to meetings, school IEP meetings, hearings and team meetings among other when requested by the client
5. Encourage and promote client leadership when opportunities are available in the community.
6. Assist client in developing skills of self-advocacy and building a recovery support system.
7. PRS links up with various community organizations and resources to provide additional support for parents/families, particularly as they transition from recovery back into less intensive services and/or the general community.
8. PRS advocates, mentors, educates, supports recovery and wellness, and foremost, displays ethical responsibility when providing services to clients/families.
9. Encourage client/families’ attendance and participation in AA/NA/GA.
10. When applicable, assist client/family in educating about Relapse Prevention process
11. Responsible for documenting Psycho-educational sessions and/or other documentation when applicable
12. When applicable, transporting clients to and from activities
13. Other duties as assigned
