Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist in training to support patients with substance use disorders. You will be mentored to connect patients to evidence-based treatment and harm-reduction resources, using lived experience to guide care and reduce barriers to access.

In this role, you will work under supervision to provide recovery support, coordinate with care teams, and help patients engage with intake and follow-up services across Carle Addiction Recovery Center and community

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial brief assessments.
• Introduce and connect patients to recovery programs with supervision.
• Assist with the facilitation of appointments at outpatient treatment clinics including CARC and external agencies.
• Assist with access to services such as financial counseling, primary care, mental health services, social services, and residential treatment facilities.
• Assist with navigating barriers to patients obtaining substance use treatment.
• Establish professional relationships with patients and communicate to help navigate obstacles to follow up treatment.
• Provide ongoing recovery support to ensure patient arrives and stays engaged in treatment overtime.
• Respond to calls or messages from patients and providers as appropriate.
• Use motivational interviewing to communicate with patients in a respectful, culturally appropriate manner.
• Maintain up-to-date information about effects of substances, withdrawal symptoms, and treatment options to educate and counsel patients.
• Provide education on addiction, signs of overdose, and naloxone administration to patients and families.

Overview

The peer recovery specialist in training, is a team member who is working towards requirements for CPRS/CRSS (certified peer recovery specialist), who will be trained and supervised to assist patients access evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders with a focus on low-threshold access to MAR (medication assisted recovery), treatment programs and harm-reduction. Peer in training provides mentoring and support to individuals in recovery, using their lived experience to help others navigate treatment and achieve their goals, while also learning the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.

• Respond to calls or messages directly from patients and providers, as appropriate.
• Use motivational interviewing techniques to communicate with patients in a respectful, culturally appropriate, non-judgmental manner.
• Maintain up-to-date information about the effects of various substances, withdrawal symptoms, and treatment options in order to effectively educate and counsel patients.
• Provide education/information to patients, families and other interested parties on addiction, signs of overdose, and administration of naloxone products

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $21.02per hour - $35.1per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health.
