KidMedVA is seeking a Pediatric Nurse to assess and manage pediatric patient needs in Virginia. You will document accurately, support care teams, and ensure patient rights and dignity are respected across all shifts.

The role emphasizes bedside care, medication administration, phlebotomy, vital sign monitoring, and collaboration with physicians to deliver safe, efficient pediatric care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an approved nursing program.
  • Valid state license to practice nursing in Virginia.
  • Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • One year nursing experience in pediatrics (preferred).
  • Emergency/Urgent Care experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and identify actual and potential pediatric care needs.
  • Evaluate patient/family response to treatment and modify care accordingly.
  • Document accurately in patient charts in a timely manner.
  • Respect patient rights and treat all patients with dignity.
  • Promote positive relations and a learning work environment.
  • Maintain cost containment for the practice and patient.
  • Work as a supportive team member.
  • Record patient weights in kilograms and chart properly.
  • Collect and document vital signs and relay out-of-range values to the provider.
  • Assist providers with patient care and procedures as ordered (phlebotomy, specimen collection, splints, positioning).
  • Administer, order, and document medications using the 5 rights.
  • Obtain lab samples and document completion of procedures.
  • Perform IV insertions and manage fluids, administer IM/IV/SubQ/nebulized meds with proper documentation.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and tidy staff areas.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and training.
  • Report parent/patient complaints to manager promptly.
  • Open/close building duties as required.
  • Count and document medication counts.
  • Perform weekly autoclave maintenance.
  • Dispense DME, obtain paperwork, and document accordingly.
  • Dispense nebulizers with proper paperwork and instruct use.
  • Assign correct charges and CPT codes to patient charts.
  • Support other clinical staff (laundry, labs, supplies).

Job description

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Assessing patients and identifying actual and potential patient care needs.
  • Evaluating the patient/family response to the treatment and modifying care accordingly.
  • Completing accurate, concise documentation in the patient's chart in a timely manner while patient is in the department.
  • Conveying respect of patient's rights and treating all patients with dignity.
  • Practicing and promoting positive customer/peer relations while fostering a learning work environment.
  • Practicing cost containment for the practice and patient.
  • Functioning as a supportive team member.
  • Obtaining accurate weight of patients in kilograms and documenting in the chart appropriately.
  • Collecting and documenting patient vital signs, as well as pertinent medical information, and promptly relaying out-of-range values to the provider.
  • Assisting the providers with patient care and performing procedures as ordered (i.e. - Phlebotomy, specimen collection, splints, patient positioning for procedures)
  • Administering, ordering, and documenting medications and appropriately using the 5 rights of medication (patient, drug, dose, route, and time)
  • Obtaining lab samples using safe standard procedures and accurately documenting completion of procedure.
  • Performing IV insertions, fluid management, administer IM, IV, SubQ, and nebulized medications using safe standard procedures and accurately documenting completion and charges for procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment (i.e. ensuring that the work area and staff lounge are tidy and all equipment and utensils are put away at the end of each shift).
  • Participating and attending mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • Reporting all parent/patient complaints to the manager in a timely manner to allow for appropriate actions to be taken.
  • Assisting in the duties required to properly open and close the building.
  • Counting and documenting medication counts.
  • Performing weekly maintenance on autoclave.
  • Dispensing durable medical equipment (DME), obtaining appropriate paperwork, and documenting accordingly.
  • Dispensing nebulizers after obtaining proper paperwork and instructing patients/parents on proper use.
  • Associating correct charges and CPT codes to the patients chart.
  • Assisting and supporting other clinical staff when needed (i.e. laundry, lab tests, supply forms).
LEADERSHIP:
  • Monitor and facilitate patient flow through the clinical area.
  • Identify and assume care of high risk/high acuity patients.
  • Serve as a resource to PCTs for patient care questions and concerns.
  • Ensure daily tasks and checklists are completed.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Graduate from an approved nursing program
  • Valid state license to practice nursing in the state of Virginia
  • Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • One year nursing experience in pediatrics (preferred)
  • Emergency/Urgent Care experience (preferred)
