Job summary

Betances Health Center in New York, NY seeks a Board-certified Pediatrician to provide comprehensive primary care for patients from birth to 21 years, including immunizations, check-ups, and chronic disease management. You will review immunization status, order and interpret tests, coordinate referrals, supervise medical staff, and ensure accurate charting and billing.

Fluency in Spanish or Chinese is a plus, and NYS medical license is required.

Qualifications

Job description

  • Provide comprehensive primary care to all Betances pediatric patients from birth through age 21 years including check-ups, immunizations, and chronic condition management.
  • Review and update the immunization status of all pediatric patients.
  • Perform preventive health services for all pediatric patients by schedule according to the American Academy of Pediatrics Standards.
  • Use outstanding communication skills to assist patients and families in understanding diagnostic tests and treatments, help patients and families navigate all aspects of care, and facilitate patient and family preparation for specialty medical appointments.
  • Initiate timely referrals to specialty services and ensure close, regular bi-directional communication with specialists to promote continuity of care.
  • Provide developmental and anticipatory guidance to all patients as appropriate.
  • Offer counseling to adolescent patients on substance abuse, sex education, HIV prevention, pregnancy prevention and tobacco counseling.
  • Review and manage all abnormal laboratory results and other tests.
  • Ensure all allergies are properly documented on all pediatric patients.
  • Ensure medications prescribed are fully explained to patients with the potential side-effects.
  • Manages both acute and chronic conditions.
  • Supervise the work of the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner assigned to their practice.
  • Collaborate and provide supervision with other physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Medical Assistants and students as assigned by Chief Medical Officer.
  • Adhere to documentation and quality standards set by New York State and any other standards implemented by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Maintain an ongoing relationship with referral hospital and its professionals. Ultimately, have admitting privileges at that institution.
  • Timely completion of charts, patient care forms and billing encounters.
  • Special Projects to be determined by the Associate Medical Director/Medical Director.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Graduate of an accredited medical or osteopathic school with MD, DO or equivalent degree. Successful completion of accredited Residency program. Community or ambulatory health experience is preferred.
  • Must be NYS Licensed Physician MD or DO and in good standing with all regulatory agencies.
  • Must be Board certified in Pediatrics and in good standing with their Board-Certified Academy with 2+ years of experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills required.
  • Must be assertive, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Computer proficiency with efficiency in using electronic health records systems.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or Chinese) a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, supervise, train and work respectfully and effectively with a culturally diverse clinic staff.
