Job summary

La Rabida in Chicago is looking for an Ambulatory Physician to provide comprehensive medical care to children from birth to young adulthood. The ideal candidate will have an MD/DO, an unrestricted medical license in Illinois, and be a board-certified pediatrician with 2-3 years of experience. You will work with medically complex patients, assessing and addressing their developmental needs while serving as a resource in pediatric practice. Qualifications

La Rabida Children’s Hospital provides specialized, family-centered health care to children with medically complex conditions, disabilities, and chronic illness. Through expertise, compassion, and advocacy we help children and their families reach their fullest potential, regardless of their ability to pay.

Our not-for-profit hospital, licensed for 49 beds, helps transition children from neonatal or pediatric intensive care to home, by providing medical, rehabilitative and developmental care, and by training families to continue treatments and manage the necessary equipment in the home. La Rabida also provides extensive rehabilitation for those recovering from wounds or burns and treatment for exacerbations of chronic conditions.

The hospital’s enhanced pediatric patient-centered medical home provides primary care to children with complex medical conditions and their siblings. Children with medical homes elsewhere come to La Rabida for specialty services. La Rabida offers a wide range of specialty services provided to children with sickle cell disease, diabetes, and many others. Children are supported in their emotional and developmental growth, particularly in cases where such growth has been interrupted by accident or disease.

Finally, La Rabida provides forensic and treatment services for children exposed to abuse and neglect, comprehensive assessments for wards of the state, early intervention for children between 0 and 3 years of age. Care coordination services for medically complex children are also provided for those who are covered by a health plan and receive care from providers in Cook County.

Job Description

SUMMARY:Ambulatory physician provide acute medical care and primary preventive care services to children from birth to young adulthood.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Utilizes advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise in pediatrics for an identified population of patients, including acute & primary care, health promotion, prevention of disease, and management of chronic disease. Performs delegated medical functions as described in written protocols and/or a collaborative agreement that have been approved by medical and nursing administration.
  • Systematically assesses the physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families through the use of a medical screening exam (MSE), history and physical exam, and other assessments as appropriate. Develops a plan of care for each patient/family based on assessment and documents according to policy.
  • Demonstrates competence consistent with evidence-based practice in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of identified patients. Monitors clinical outcomes to improve the quality of care for patients. Evaluates and modifies the plan of care as needed.
  • Integrates the role of teacher into clinical practice to provide patient education. Assesses learning needs, provides for education and evaluates learning objectives are achieved. Assists the staff in providing patient and family education.
  • Consults within the organization on current pediatric clinical practice and disease management in area(s) of expertise. Functions as a resource to the community in areas of expertise.
  • Participates as a member of related professional organizations.
  • Functions as a role model and informal leader.

  • License: Unrestricted medical license in Illinois; board certified pediatrician required
