Qualifications

  • Master's or doctoral degree in speech-language pathology (SLP) with licensure or eligible licensure.
  • Licensed as a speech-language pathologist by the state of practice or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with a car in good working order.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations and assess home environment as appropriate.
  • Identify functional speech defects and plan care to improve the patient’s function.
  • Administer speech therapy using specialized techniques or equipment.
  • Recommend communication devices or aids as indicated.
  • Coordinate with referring physicians and staff to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Prepare and submit notes per organizational policy.
  • May supervise home health aide related to the speech-language plan of care.
  • Maintain clinical competency in SLP practice and theory.
  • Refer patients and families to other services when appropriate.
  • Instruct patient and family in the treatment regime.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Pediatric Speech Therapist is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of children with communication disorders. This includes addressing challenges with articulation, language, fluency, oral-motor skills, and social communication. The goal is to improve the child's ability to express themselves and understand others, while collaborating closely with families, teachers, and other healthcare professionals. and for adherence to all conditions in the Service Agreement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Conducts appropriate evaluations, assesses home environment (as appropriate), identifies equipment needs relative to speech/language function.
  2. Identifies functional speech defects and establishes a plan of care to improve the patient'sfunction.
  3. Administers speech therapy program utilizing specialized therapeutic technique and/or equipment.
  4. Recommends communication devices/aids as indicated.
  5. Confers with referring physicians and other organization personnel to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care contributes to the total plan of care.
  6. As appropriate, participates in case conferences, inservices and other meetings required to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
  7. Prepares and submits notes per organization policy.
  8. Maintains clinical competency in speech language pathology practice and theory.
  9. Identifies patient and family/caregiver needs for other services and refers as appropriate.
  10. Instructs patient, family/caregiver and other Organization health care personnel in thepatient's treatment regime as indicated.
  11. May supervise home health aide in procedures directly related to the speech-language therapy plan of care.
  12. Performs other duties as required to facilitate the delivery of speech language pathology services.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Possesses a master's or doctoral degree in speech-language pathology (SLP), and who meets either of the following requirements:
    1. Is licensed as a speech-language pathologist by the State in which the individual furnishes such service; or
    2. If the State does not license speech-language pathologists:
      1. Must successfully complete 350 clock hours of supervised clinical practicum (or is in the process of accumulating such supervised clinical experience);
      2. Performed not less than 9 months of supervised full-time SLP services after obtaining a master's or doctoral degree in SLP or a related field; and
      3. Successfully completed an approved national examination in SLP
  2. A minimum of one (1) year's clinical experience in Speech-Language Pathology.
  3. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication, and organization skills.
  4. Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
  5. Licensed driver with automobile that is in good working order and insured in accordance with the organization requirements.
