Job summary

The Pharmacy Department at Children’s of Alabama is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the preparation and dispensing of medications under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Duties include compounding, verification, and unit-dosing to ensure safe, accurate medication delivery for patients.

Ideal candidates hold an Associate degree, current Pharmacy Technician certification or Intern status, and at least two years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Certification as Pharmacy Technician or AL Pharmacy Intern Extern is required or considered equivalent.
• Two years of staff-level pharmacy experience is preferred.
• Must obtain national board certification within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Respond to patient needs for medications and assist with dispensing under pharmacist supervision.
• Assist in aseptic preparation and preparation of sterile and non-sterile medications.
• Verify medication orders and participate in unit-dose and distribution processes.
• Operate and troubleshoot pharmacy automation and inventory systems (Pyxis, bar code scanning).
• Adhere to Alabama State Board of Pharmacy standards and hospital policies.
