Shriners Children’s Shreveport is recruiting a full time, experienced pediatric orthopedic surgeon to join a general pediatric orthopedic practice with strong clinical volumes and a highly cohesive team culture.

The ideal candidate will bring broad pediatric orthopedic expertise with strengths in neuromuscular care, hip preservation, and complex foot and ankle deformities, with opportunities to teach LSU residents and potential academic appointment.

Qualifications

• MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school and board eligibility/certification in Orthopedic Surgery.
• Completion of an ACGME accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency.
• Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery.
• Minimum 5 years post‑fellowship clinical experience.
• ABOS board certification or eligibility.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of practice.
• DEA eligibility.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers and PALS certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical assessments and treatment planning for pediatric orthopedic conditions.
• Provide surgical and non‑surgical management per current standards.
• Participate in inpatient/outpatient care, pre/postoperative management, and discharge planning.
• Perform operative procedures following institutional protocols and safety standards.
• Collaborate with pediatricians, physiatrists, therapists, and subspecialists for coordinated care.
• Maintain EHR documentation compliant with regulatory requirements.
• Participate in shared call coverage and departmental quality initiatives.
• Contribute to medical education, research, and scholarly activities.
• Maintain productivity benchmarks and institutional performance metrics.

Job Overview

Shriners Children's Shreveport is recruiting a full time, experienced pediatric orthopedic surgeon to join a general pediatric orthopedic practice with strong clinical volumes and a highly cohesive team culture. The ideal candidate will bring broad pediatric orthopedic expertise with preferred strengths in neuromuscular care, hip preservation, and complex foot and ankle deformity. The practice includes a diverse mix of conditions such as CP‑related deformities, muscle lengthening, flatfoot reconstruction, benign bone tumors, fractures (cold trauma), and congenital and acquired deformities.

• A robust referral base and steady clinic and surgical volume
• Two dedicated OR block days per week
• 30–35 clinic patients per day, plus add‑ons
• 1:1 APP support, with APPs independently running fracture/injury clinic
• A 1‑in‑3 home call rotation with no trauma call and minimal call burden
• Opportunities to teach LSU orthopedic residents (no clinical fellows)
• Potential for an academic appointment through LSU
• A deeply supportive team, including a collaborative Chief of Staff and strong local administrator

This position is ideal for a surgeon who values meaningful mission‑driven work, a collegial environment, and the ability to contribute to program growth while maintaining a balanced clinical practice. Compensation is determined by a combination of years of post-fellowship clinical experience and departmental equity.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment planning for pediatric patients with orthopedic conditions including limb deformities, scoliosis, fractures, hip dysplasia, clubfoot, and other musculoskeletal disorders.
• Provide surgical and non-surgical management based on current standards of care, evidence‑based practices, and patient‑specific considerations.
• Participate in inpatient and/or outpatient care, including preoperative and postoperative management, consultations, and discharge planning.
• Perform operative procedures in accordance with institutional protocols and safety standards.
• Collaborate with pediatricians, physiatrists, physical therapists, anesthesiologists, and other subspecialists in the coordinated care of patients.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record system in compliance with legal, regulatory, and institutional requirements.
• Participate in shared call coverage, hospital rounds, and trauma response as assigned.
• Contribute to departmental quality improvement, peer review, and clinical governance processes.
• May participate in medical education, research, and scholarly activities depending on institutional affiliation or department expectations.
• Maintain accountability for meeting established productivity benchmarks (e.g. wRVUS), quality metrics, and institutional performance standards.
• Ensure time is allocated in accordance with assigned clinical, surgical, administrative, and academic expectations.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
• Completion of an ACGME accredited residency in Orthopedic Surgery
• Completion of fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery
• Minimum 5 years of post‑fellowship clinical experience required
• Board certification or eligibility in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS), with subspecialty certification in Pediatric Orthopedics
• Must possess eligibility for active and unrestricted medical licensure in the state of practice
• Must possess eligibility for active DEA
• Must possess Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS for HCP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Credentialing and privileging by the medical staff in accordance with hospital bylaws
• Comprehensive knowledge of pediatric orthopedic surgical techniques, growth and development, and musculoskeletal conditions unique to children.
• Proficiency in operative planning, surgical execution, and perioperative management in pediatric populations.
• Familiarity with pediatric imaging, casting, bracing, and non‑operative treatment protocols.
• Effective communication and counseling skills for engaging with pediatric patients and their families.
• Ability to function in a multidisciplinary environment and manage complex care scenarios.
• Competency in use of electronic medical record systems, documentation standards, and clinical decision support tools.
