Job summary

The University of New Mexico’s Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology in Albuquerque is seeking a full-time Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant. You will join a multidisciplinary team caring for a culturally diverse pediatric oncology population, with ties to the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center and clinical trials.

The role involves supervised independence in managing non-emergency oncology patients, with opportunities to contribute to research and protocol-driven care.

Qualifications

• Three years of clinical pediatric oncology nursing experience or CPON certification.
• Willingness to become proficient in lumbar punctures and bone marrow procedures in children.
• Teaching and clinical research experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs disease/protocol appropriate medical examinations and evaluations.
• Assists in ordering/interpretation of diagnostic tests, diagnoses and treatment, monitoring and follow-up.
• Develops patient care charts and maintains complete data for routine care and research/clinical trials.
• Provides health education to students, families, and community health practitioners in pediatric oncology.
• Supervises/co-ordinates activities of patient care and support staff, including chemotherapy delivery to children/young adults.
• Assists in planning programs and developing health policies/procedures.
• Practices safety, infection control methods, etc.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
