Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Work Shift: First Shift

Department: Pediatric Unit

Licensed Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Physician Assistant with pediatric experience is needed to join a 28‑bed pediatric unit focused on chronic disease and specialty care.

Position Highlights

• Provide direct care to pediatric patients with complex and chronic medical conditions.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, therapists, and specialists.
• Manage patient assessments, treatment planning, and family education.
• Participate in care coordination and quality initiatives focused on long‑term, specialty pediatric care.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Nursing with a defined clinical specialty or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Minimum of five years of related clinical practice with demonstrated leadership and teaching skills.
• Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in Connecticut.
• Passed the State of Connecticut approved Pharmacology course required in the Master’s Degree Program.
• DEA and CT Controlled Substance Registrations.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Job Summary

Provides patient‑centered, culturally sensitive, quality care using evidence‑based medicine. Works in collaboration with the clinical team to provide patient and family education and support.

Physical Demands

Job requires sitting/working at a desk and engaging in clinical tasks such as reaching, bending, stretching, carrying documents and small equipment. Fine manipulation for writing and patient care techniques, visual/perceptive skills, functional use of both upper and lower extremities, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

Cognitive Demands

Requires independent problem identification, abstract reasoning, adaptability, quick decision making, selective attention, interpretation of physical findings and lab results, critical prioritization, high‑level communication skills, and basic math operations.

Work Demands

Requires high level of independent judgement, function during stressful periods, work primarily indoors with exposure to noise, odors, and body fluids. Occasional on‑call or emergency response.

Essential Functions

• Perform complete history and physical examinations upon admission, annually including pre‑operative assessment.
• Provide assessment, triage and therapeutic management of patients’ needs.
• Request appropriate consults as needed.
• Order and/or obtain all appropriate laboratory, radiological, and specialized tests.
• Implement care plans in collaboration with the clinical team.
• Consult with patient, family and qualified physician on care plans.
• Provide patient/family counseling and education.
• Assist during procedures as privileged.
• Document all clinical interventions accurately and timely.
• Participate in improvement opportunities in patient care and outcomes.
• Perform other duties as assigned related to the PNP/PA role.
