Position Description

The Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT) or Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT), with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. The selected candidate’s faculty rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. We seek applicants who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in patient care, scholarship, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary range for the Assistant Professor title will be $25,000-$56,250 per month ($300,000-$675,000 annually), commensurate with experience, discipline, qualifications, and academic rank, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range includes compensation provided through the University.

Additional compensation associated with this position includes guaranteed monthly additional compensation through the CUMG practice plan of $10,000-$17,000 per month ($120,000-$204,000 annually). Total fixed compensation (base salary plus Monthly Additional Compensation) for this position will not exceed $675,000 annually for the rank of Assistant Professor.

Associate Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary range for the Associate Professor title will be $30,000-$49,580 per month ($360,000-$594,960 annually), commensurate with experience, discipline, qualifications, and academic rank, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range includes compensation provided through the University.

Additional compensation associated with this position includes guaranteed Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan of $17,000-$21,249 per month ($204,000-$254,988 annually). Total fixed compensation (base salary plus Monthly Additional Compensation) for this position will not exceed $849,948 annually for the rank of Associate Professor.

Additional Compensation and Benefits

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive compensation through the CUMG practice plan. Additional compensation may also include a relocation incentive/moving allowance, administrative supplement, and/or productivity incentive, as applicable and in accordance with institutional policies.

Compensation provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. The successful candidate’s primary clinical responsibilities will be at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where they will provide comprehensive pediatric neurosurgical care as a member of the pediatric neurological surgery program. The faculty member will participate in the evaluation, surgical management, and ongoing care of pediatric patients with a broad range of neurological and neurosurgical conditions.

The successful candidate will participate in the teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows and will contribute to clinical, translational, outcomes-based, and/or other scholarly research activities relevant to pediatric neurological surgery. As part of the appointment, the successful candidate will be a faculty member of the University of Washington School of Medicine, Department of Neurological Surgery.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative academic pediatric neurosurgery practice at Seattle Children’s Hospital and will work closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams and University of Washington faculty. The Department of Neurological Surgery has a nationally recognized tradition of excellence in patient care, education, and research.

All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Applicants must have an M.D. degree (or foreign equivalent). An M.D./Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) is also acceptable.
• Applicants must be eligible for a Washington State medical license.
• Applicants must be board certified or board eligible in Neurosurgery and Pediatric Neurosurgery.
• Applicants appointed at the Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT) rank must meet the University of Washington School of Medicine criteria for appointment at the Associate Professor level.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
