The Physician Assistant will practice medicine under the supervision of a physician at Methodist Le Bonheur. The role involves providing diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health‑care services as delegated by a physician, taking medical histories, examining and treating patients, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and X‑rays, and making diagnoses. The assistant may treat minor injuries (suturing, splinting, casting) and prescribe medications if eligible. In a surgical setting, the assistant may provide pre‑operative and post‑operative care and act as a first or second surgical assistant during major procedures.
Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact with exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous materials. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance, push and pull up to 250 lbs., and perform repetitive tasks such as standing, walking, kneeling, and bending throughout the shift.
Frequent travel outside the hospital and handling/narcotics administration. Requires strong written and verbal communication skills.
