Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, directs them to an exam room, and confirms identity.

  • Prepares instruments and maintains aseptic technique.
  • Keeps patient areas clean and stocked, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Assists with clinical phone calls and coordinates referrals.
  • Schedules patient appointments using the facility system.
  • Manages mail and office correspondence to keep operations efficient.
  • Acts as patient advocate and protects privacy of medical records.
  • Precepts new medical assistant staff and supports equipment use and purchasing as needed.

Job Shift: Any* Full-Time (40 Hours per week) * Between business hours of 7:30a-6p

This position requires availability for Saturday rotations. (Average about 1x per month or less).

Responsibilities
  • Greets patients, directs them to an exam room, and uses two patient identifiers to confirm identity. Completes patient intake and documents appropriately. Interviews patient and take their brief history. This includes temperature, blood pressure, height, and weight, pain assessment and smoking history. Assesses for allergies. Records findings in the EHR.
  • Performs EKG, point of care testing, visual acuity as directed by department, and oximetry. Documents findings in EHR.
  • Prepares medical instruments for sterilization process and transfer to and from central sterilization area. Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control and adheres to the Health Center's infection control policies and procedures.
  • Maintains patient areas to provide for a safe, sanitary, and therapeutic environment. Prepares and maintains examination and treatment rooms. Ensures paper on exam tables are changed after each patient. Visually inspects the room for any bio-hazard material, potential hazards (i.e., damp/wet floor, debris left in room, etc.).
  • Assist with clinical phone calls and involves other nursing staff as needed. Ask team nurse or staff nurse to assess and determine the need for immediate medical care based on urgency of problem.
  • Responsible for scheduling patients appointments, solves scheduling problems, issues and/or concerns utilizing the facility computer system as applicable within limits of own position.
  • Provides daily scheduling of referrals to local hospitals and private physicians for adult/pediatric medicine patients ensuring notice is given in a timely manner.
  • Obtains referrals as necessary following office procedure and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Handles mail, all correspondence; ensuring forms are completed accurately. Oversees that the office runs efficiently.
  • Provides an inventory of supplies as needed.
  • Serves as patient advocate. Defend and preserve the rights of patients pertaining to all aspects of their care, knowledge and privacy.
  • Protects the confidentiality of medical records within scope of own responsibilities by preventing unauthorized release of information both verbally and/or in writing.
  • Demonstrates flexibility when responding to change. Assumes accountability for all actions. Contributes to orientation of new medical assistant personnel. Responds appropriately to facility acuity and activity by providing assistance to peers, patients, and staff as needed.
  • Has knowledge of the use and operation of all office equipment, i.e., telephone system, fax, computer system, copy machine, etc.
  • Perform med reconciliation with patients and contact pharmacy and/or other MD offices when more information or clarification is needed.
  • Serve as a preceptor to new hires.
  • Orders point of care testing and medical supplies for his/her department and performs other purchasing duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Bilingual or trilingual ability preferred but not required.
  • Education: Completion of a formal program in medical assisting with appropriate certificate.
  • Preferred Experience: 2+ years
  • Software/Hardware: Experience with Electronic Health Records software, EPIC
  • Certification/Licensure: CCMA or CMA National certification preferred
  • Current CPR/AED certification required.
