UPMC is offering a one-year, non-ACGME Newborn Hospitalist Fellowship designed to educate pediatricians to provide care in NICU, Special Care Nursery, or Newborn Nursery settings. The program includes supervised Level II–IV NICU rotations, telemedicine, and a quality improvement project.

The Newborn Hospitalist Fellowship Program will be a one-year, non-ACGME accredited training program that will educate pediatricians to provide care in a NICU, Special Care Nursery, or Newborn Nursery setting. This program is intended to train providers who will work alongside or in place of advanced practice providers or who will oversee the care provided in a community Special Care Nursery and/or Newborn Nursery. Through supervised rotations in Level II, III and IV NICUs, Newborn Nurseries, community sites, and delivery room resuscitation teams, the fellow will acquire the medical knowledge and procedural skills needed to care for infants in these settings. The fellow will also be educated on billing and coding requirements, quality improvement methodology, and the use of telemedicine. The fellow will be expected to complete a quality improvement project. The fellow must have completed a Pediatric residency program and be board-eligible or board-certified in Pediatrics. Once the fellow is deemed competent in basic resuscitation skills and standard NICU procedures, they will be expected to bill for delivery room attendance and any procedure performed that is not included in a daily (bundled) billing code. Proposed Schedule One month on a Level IV NICU Team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh One month on a Level III NICU Team at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital Four months on the Triage Team (delivery room resuscitation team) at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital One month on a Level II NICU Team at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital Two months on the Newborn Nursery Team at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital Two months at a community site (e.g., UPMC Horizon) One month of vacation Additional Education Simulation and/or hands-on training for all standard NICU procedures Proctored training for circumcisions Neonatal Resuscitation Program Provider and Instructor Certification Participation in all conferences and educational sessions offered by the Division of Newborn Medicine

Key Position Highlights

• Join 1 part time Hospitalist and 26 Neonatologists
• Delivery/C-section attendance when applicable

Compensation

Compensation will be based on current UPMC GME stipends and benefits for Pediatric sub-specialty fellows. Relocation assistance $4110 for CME allowance plus time 4-weeks PTO Outstanding benefit package including health, dental, vision and pension and occurrence-based malpractice DEA and license renewals
