Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of Dental Assisting or Expanded Duties Certified (EFDA).
• Expanded Duties Certification required within 12 months of hire.
• American Heart Association AED - Must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Applies knowledge of growth and development in patient interactions and treatment.
• Provides expertise with appropriate approaches to small children, children with autism, children confined to wheelchairs, and children with developmental delay.
• Ensures patient safety with papoose (when necessary) for patients unable to sit for procedures unassisted.
• Maintains and inventories operatory supplies and alerts staff when inventory drops.
• Checks equipment for proper function and cleanliness and notifies when repairs are needed.
• Delivers clear education information for parents/patients with post-treatment instructions and written materials as needed.
• Sterilizes dental instruments and ensures sterile technique.
• Greets parents, assists patients to operatory, verifies identity with armband before procedures.
• Reviews and documents patient information in the system and obtains parental consent.
• Takes x-rays ensuring diagnostic quality and follows infection control policies.
• Works with Pediatric Dental Attending, Residents, and other specialists in clinic and OR.
• Performs designated expanded duties and monitors patient with nitrous oxide, never leaving them unattended.
