Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join the Clinical Pediatrics Lab. The role includes performing routine and specialized tests, handling specimens, and ensuring quality control. The position occurs on a second shift schedule, notably Saturdays and Sundays (3:00 p.m.

– 11:30 p.m.) with weekend premium eligibility. In this role, you will calibrate and maintain instrumentation, document QA results, and participate in lab inspections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science; or Medical Technology.
• Certification preferred.
• Experience not required but helpful.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment.
• Handle specimens and test samples using manual and automated equipment.
• Calibrate and maintain instrumentation per SOPs.
• Document QC/QA results and notify supervisor of instrument issues.
• Support preparation for lab inspections and proficiency testing.
• Provide guidance to students, interns, residents, or staff as needed.
