Job summary

Sanford Health in the United States is seeking a Child Life Specialist to help children and families cope with medical experiences in outpatient settings. You will provide emotional support, education, and coping strategies during visits, procedures, and ongoing treatment plans.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Child Life or related field, completion of internship, and CCLS certification or plan to obtain within a year; BLS is required within six months.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, or related field.
• Completion of Child Life internship.
• Minimum two years experience working with various age groups of children is preferred.
• Experience working with pediatric population in a therapeutic setting is desired.
• CCLS certification required or must be obtained within one year of hire.
• BLS certification required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Help children and families cope with anxiety, fear or stress related to medical visits, procedures or diagnoses. Advocate for the child's emotional and developmental needs within the healthcare team.
• Prepare children for exams and procedures using developmentally appropriate explanations; support families by explaining medical processes.
• Utilize play activities in a healthcare environment; normalize the clinic environment through child-friendly interactions and distraction techniques during procedures.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers and other staff; communicate patient needs and coping plans to the care team.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, or related field

Completion of Child Life internship

CCLS certification or must be obtained within one year of hire

BLS certification within six months of hire
