Job summary

• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with children, families, volunteers and the interdisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of child development and family systems; understanding stress and trauma impacts on children.
• Ability to follow directions and maintain records.
• Ability to assess patient requirements relative to age-specific needs.

Responsibilities

• Assists in implementing therapeutic programs to meet physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs of hospitalized children.
• Utilizes assessment data to deliver quality care and establish therapeutic relationships with children and families.
• Plans, implements, and evaluates bedside activities to address developmental and psychosocial needs.
• Facilitates structured group activities, play, and medical play.
• Maintains a safe, developmentally appropriate play environment and promotes family-centered care.
• Communicates observations to the child life team and collaborates with interdisciplinary staff.
• Supervises volunteers and supports orientation and assignment matching.
