Job summary

Indiana University Health Riley is seeking a Medical Assistant II for the Pediatric Cardiology (PCI) department in Indianapolis. The role supports clinical procedures, patient flow, and documentation under supervision, with four 10-hour shifts weekly and a set day off determined by the clinic manager.

The position requires a High School diploma (MA program preferred), MA certification, BLS, and knowledge of lab procedures, coding, and EMR.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from a Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Current certification in Medical Assisting (CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA/CMAC) is required or preferred.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare workers is required.
• Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA standards.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
• TB validation preferred or obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Familiarity with Quality Programs, Meaningful Use, and Standard Work within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures, insurance plans, and third‑party payers.
• Ability to master clinical competencies per current policies and checklists.
• Basic math skills and accurate data entry are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and clinical support per standards.
• Complete ordered procedures and treatments accurately and timely.
• Support smooth patient flow and coordinate care activities.
• Perform general laboratory work and assist with clinical documentation.
• Inform and instruct patients regarding procedures and needs.
• Perform registration, scheduling and maintain EMR files.
• Support front office functions such as patient check-in/out as needed.
• May perform computerized physician order entry when directed by the physician.
• Precept current MA team members or externs as requested by leadership.
