Job summary

Banner Health is seeking a skilled Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer to join a dynamic, expanding pediatric echo lab. You will perform complex TTE studies in both inpatient and outpatient settings across multiple Banner campuses, including travel between Glendale and surrounding clinics.

The role requires ARDMS or CCI RDCS-PE or RCCS certification, BLS, and a strong background in pediatric echocardiography. A minimum of three years’ experience in a pediatric-focused environment is expected.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved school for Cardiac Ultrasound as designated by AMA/AIUM.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Pediatric certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs echocardiograms on pediatric and adult patients with complex congenital heart disease.
  • Records, interrogates, and measures anatomy and physiology; prepares preliminary reports.
  • Follows orders, uses judgment, and participates in quality improvement and accreditation.
  • Mentors other sonographers and trainees; educates patients and families about procedures.
  • Assists with invasive/interventional and intraoperative procedures when needed.
  • Performs equipment QC and maintains a safe environment.
  • Maintains ethical and legal responsibilities; protects patient confidentiality.
  • Provides coverage across Banner facilities as needed; may travel between locations.
  • Monitors supplies and supports workflow efficiency.

You must be able to work in a dynamic, expanding, and fast-paced accredited pediatric echo lab as a registered pediatric cardiac sonographer. At our several hospital campuses, we offer services in both inpatient and outpatient clinic settings, including satellite clinics with portable equipment. Traveling and being flexible at the last minute are requirements.Transthoracic echocardiograms must be performed for both adult and pediatric patients with basic to complicated congenital heart disease. Make use of your superior understanding of cardiac physiology and illness to make sure that preliminary reports contain detailed information and that important discoveries are communicated promptly. Exams must be conducted in acute hospital settings, such as the operating room, cardiac catheter lab, emergency department, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, and other inpatient units. Opportunities are available to act as a preceptor for students or new employees as necessary as well to learn and perform Fetal Echocardiograms and Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Must be open to taking holiday and after-hours calls at various hospital locations. Strong time management abilities and outstanding people skills are required. Call bonuses, working 4–10 hour shifts are all excellent incentives.**\*\*Required national certification from ARDMS or CCI\*\***\*\*Preferred certifications from, RVT for Vascular, RCS for echo.You will work alongside 8 Physicians/APP's and a robust team of support staff members.**Location**:The West Valley Float position is primarily based out of the Glendale clinic, which serves as the main home location. The role also provides scheduled coverage at the Estrella clinic twice per week on Mondays and Wednesdays.This position works a team of Sonographers that alternate coverage between the Glendale Clinic, Estrella Clinic, three days per week (Monday and Wednesday) and will be working to help with coverage with a team for our Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, Banner Del Webb Medical Center, Banner Estrella Medical Center and Banner University Medical Center. **Hours/Shift:** This position will start with 5- 8 hr shift M-F during training. After training we will offer to keep 5- 8's or 4-10's, plus night/weekend call rotation.POSITION SUMMARY This position independently performs the most complex echocardiography studies for the diagnosis of heart disease in the pediatric population and congenital heart disease in adult patients. This position performs in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols. This position ensures optimal care/treatment to patient population. This position may provide these services in multiple locations as designated by department scope. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Independently performs echocardiograms on pediatric and adult patients with complex congenital heart disease utilizing department specific protocols. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient being served. 2. Records, interrogates, quantifies, and measures both the presence of normal and abnormal anatomy or physiology in a manner consistent with approved standards. Independently produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation. Prepares and maintains accurate preliminary reports and documentation. 3. Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures. Participates in ongoing quality improvement processes including application and/or maintenance of accreditation requirements of lab. 4. Participates in the educational objectives of the pediatric echocardiography laboratory, including effectively mentoring or precepting other sonographers, students or other trainees. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes. 5. Preferred competence in assisting with invasive/interventional and intraoperative procedures in accordance with established practices. Participates in continuing medical education (CME), teaching, and precepting. 6. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements and maintenance requirements. Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot and notifies appropriate personnel to repair or maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to safety policies. 7. Accountable for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to the practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information. 8. Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department. Travel to various facilities may be required. Ability to perform daily team lead function, as assigned. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services. 9. Independently performs prescribed procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols to patients. Internal customers: All levels of medical imaging and nursing management and staff, medical staff, and all other members of the interdisciplinary health care team. External Customers: regulatory and health agencies, patients and family members. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSRequires graduation from an approved school for Cardiac Ultrasound as designated by the AMA and American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine.Requires national certification in the area of specialty from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in Pediatric Echocardiography (RDCS-PE), or a Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS). BLS certification required.Pediatric certification is required.Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems. Experience in dedicated pediatric echocardiography center typically achieved with minimum of 3 years of experience, or in a combined adult/pediatric echo center to equal 3 years of pediatric experience is required.
