Job summary

Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital in Fairfax, VA seeks a Pediatric Cardiac ICU Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join the dedicated cardiac critical care team. The APP will deliver high-acuity, family-centered care to infants, children and teens with complex congenital or acquired heart disease.

The PCICU team operates in a 12-bed unit with pediatric cardiac intensivists and supporting specialists, focusing on diagnosis, treatment and education under guideline-driven care.

Qualifications

• Licensed PA or NP with VA license or eligibility and a practice agreement.
• ACNP or pediatric NP certification and BLS/ACLS and PALS.
• Bachelor's degree plus master's in nursing or a post-master NP certificate.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose and treat pediatric cardiac patients in the PCICU.
• Develop and implement care plans for all PCICU patients and catheterization/pre/post procedures.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary cardiac team and provide education to patients and families.

Pediatric Advance Practice Provider, PCICU Job Responsibilities

• The PCICU is a 12-bed, dedicated Unit staffed by pediatric cardiac intensivists, specially trained nurses, respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacist, nutritionist, child life specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, case managers and social workers.
• The APP will evaluate, diagnose, and treat cardiac medical patients as well as pre- and post-operative/catheterization cardiac patients, under the direction of the pediatric cardiac intensivist.
• Central to the role, the APP will assist in developing and implementing plans of care for all patients in the PCICU and participate in protocol/guideline development.
• The APP functions in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary cardiac team, while also providing consultation and education to patients and their families.

Minimum Qualifications

• Work schedule:Full Time(12-hour shifts - including days, nights, weekends and holidays)
• Education:For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing; For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• Licensure:Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner;If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence)AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances).
• Certification:Acute Care Certification by Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.BLS/ACLS and PALS certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Education:Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (AC PNP) preferred or Physician Assistant
• Experience: Pediatric acute care cardiac experience preferred
