DHHA is a leading safety-net system with Level I trauma capabilities and a strong emphasis on health equity and resident education.

Attending anesthesiologists receive University of Colorado faculty appointments and contribute to clinical practice, education, and scholarship while mentoring

Qualifications

  • Medical degree and board certification in anesthesiology required.
  • Completion of accredited residency programs and fellowships or equivalent.
  • Academic appointment and teaching responsibilities in a university system.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors patients before, during, and after anesthesia and counters adverse reactions.
  • Administers anesthetic or sedation during procedures using local, IV, spinal, or caudal methods.
  • Provides life support and airway management and prepares patients for emergency surgery.
  • Records type and amount of anesthesia and patient condition during procedures.
  • Examines patients, reviews history, and uses tests to assess surgical risk.
  • Coordinates anesthesia with surgeons and consults with staff on anesthetic plans.
  • Determines when patients recover enough to transfer or go home after outpatient surgery.

Denver Health & Hospital Authority (DHHA), in partnership with the University of Colorado School of Medicine, is seeking a full-time academic Pediatric Anesthesiologist to join our expanding team. DHHA is a nationally recognized Adult Level I Trauma Center and Pediatric Level II Trauma Center, providing high-quality, mission-driven care to a diverse and dynamic patient population in the Denver metropolitan area.

Academic Mission

The Department of Anesthesiology is proud to serve as a primary affiliate training site for the University of Colorado School of Medicine's Anesthesiology Residency Program. As a high-acuity clinical rotation site, Denver Health offers residents' exceptional exposure to complex operative and perioperative care, helping cultivate outstanding clinical judgment, procedural skill, and professionalism.

Our educational, research, and patient-care missions are unified by a commitment to health equity and service to underserved populations-core to our identity as a leading safety-net institution. All attending anesthesiologists receive a University of Colorado faculty appointment commensurate with experience in clinical practice, education, and scholarly work.

Our Team

The Department of Anesthesiology at Denver Health includes 20 attending physicians, including 7 Pediatric Anesthesiologist, and 42 CRNAs who deliver high-quality perioperative care across one of the nation's top safety-net systems. Our team supports a wide range of surgical services, including trauma, general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics, and multiple subspecialties, offering anesthesiologists broad exposure to high-acuity and diverse clinical cases.

Denver Health provides 24/7 in-house anesthesiology coverage through a collaborative anesthesia care team model. This academic role includes a combination of independent clinical practice as well as teaching and supervising anesthesiology residents and medical students. Clinical expectations are 40 hours per week of anesthesiology staffing services.

Essential Functions
  • (20%) Monitors patients before, during, and after anesthesia and counteract adverse reactions or complications.
  • (20%) Administers anesthetic or sedation during medical procedures, using local, intravenous, spinal, or caudal methods.
  • (10%) Provides and maintains life support and airway management and help prepare patients for emergency surgery.
  • (10%) Records type and amount of anesthesia and patient condition throughout procedure.
  • (15%) Examines patient, obtains medical history, and use diagnostic tests to determine risk during surgical, obstetrical, and other medical procedures.
  • (15%) Coordinates administration of anesthetics with surgeons during operation. Similarly confers with other medical professionals to determine type and method of anesthetic or sedation to render patient insensible to pain.
  • (10%) Determines when patients have recovered or stabilized enough to be sent to another room or ward or to be sent home following outpatient surgery.
Education

Doctorate Degree Graduation from an Accredited Medical School Required and completed Accredited Residency Programs and fellowships for specialist, or equivalent. Required
