Job summary

UPMC Department of Pediatrics invites applications for a full-time Patient Access Specialist I. This role supports the Allergy and Immunology team at Children’s Hospital, handling patient calls, scheduling appointments, and coordinating care across EMR systems.

You will ensure accurate demographics, billing follow-up, and timely patient access while maintaining professional patient relations. The position runs Monday through Friday during daylight hours with no evenings or weekends, and requires

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred.
• Associates degree and 6 months of experience in a medical office or health care setting preferred.
• Experience with PC-based applications and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with third party payer guidelines and reimbursement practices is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review, verify and enter patient demographic information for data integrity.
• Schedule appointments according to physician templates for single or multiple sites.
• Handle incoming calls and triage to appropriate clinical or administrative areas.
• Obtain chief complaints to schedule appropriately and ensure 72-hour access goals.
• Maintain confidentiality and provide courteous, professional patient interactions.
