Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Senior Piping Designer with a strong background in piping design and multidisciplinary 3D plant modeling for mining projects. The role focuses on developing and maintaining 3D piping models, routing systems, and producing piping layouts in line with project specs and codes.

You will collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams to ensure seamless integration.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in piping and layout design for mining and mineral processing facilities.
• Proficiency in 3D plant layout and piping design software, preferably S3D.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling and 2D drafting tools for piping deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D piping models and layouts for industrial/mining projects.
• Create and optimize equipment, piping, and plant layouts for operability and constructibility.
• Route piping systems considering process requirements, stress considerations, accessibility, operability, maintenance clearances, and safety requirements.
• Verify equipment access, maintenance envelopes, lifting requirements, and operational clearances.
• Perform clash detection and resolve design conflicts with other disciplines.
• Extract piping isometrics, orthographic drawings, and piping general arrangement drawings from the 3D model.
• Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other project stakeholders to ensure design quality and consistency.
• Incorporate vendor information and ensure proper integration of equipment and piping systems.
• Support constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
• Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and client model reviews as required.

Job Summary:

This position will be required to have a strong background in piping design and multidisciplinary 3D plant modeling, preferably using S3D. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining 3D piping models, routing piping systems, and producing piping layouts in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices. You will work closely with process, mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines to ensure effective integration of piping systems within the overall plant design.
The role requires proficiency in 3D design tools and a thorough understanding of Piping/Layout design principles, including equipment interfaces, piping supports, accessibility, operability, maintainability, and constructability requirements; capable of generating and extracting accurate 2D orthographic drawings, piping isometrics, and other deliverables directly from the 3D model while working under minimal supervision.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Technical Degree or Diploma in Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, Engineering Design Technology, or a related discipline. Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in piping design and multidisciplinary 3D plant modeling, or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
