Job summary

PCH Princeton Community Hospital is seeking a Nursing Assistant for inpatient oncology with alternating weekends and holidays. The role involves supporting RN staff in admissions, monitoring and basic patient care within a hospital setting.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, assisting with hygiene and mobility, and ensuring a safe, clean environment while communicating changes to the nursing team. The position requires a high school diploma and BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and reports patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
  • Assists the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
  • Records vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures; tracks intake and outputs.
  • Assists in specimen collection and related activities.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
  • Reports equipment repairs to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Communicates nutrition issues to RN (e.g., poor appetite or diet changes).
  • Assists department with administrative tasks to support operations.
  • Answers patient call bell and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Completes annual education related to specialty accreditation as defined by standards.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 3. Records the vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures. Records oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).
  • 4. Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
  • 5. Assists in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.
  • 6. Reports all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.
  • 7. Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
  • 8. Communicates with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.
  • 10. Assists department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.
  • 11. Answers patient call bell and relays message to appropriate personnel

For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:

  • 1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
