Valley Children’s Healthcare seeks an experienced pediatrician to serve as Medical Director of the Pediatric Hospitalist Program at Kaweah Health in Visalia, CA. The role combines clinical leadership with hands-on inpatient care across a high-volume pediatric unit and newborn service.

Lead program development, maintain evidence-based standards, and collaborate with Valley Children’s regional network to advance quality and safety in pediatric care for South Valley families.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree and Board Certified in Pediatrics required.
• Extensive experience in pediatric hospital medicine with inpatient and newborn care.
• Prior leadership experience strongly preferred; eligible for California medical licensure.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Pediatric Hospitalist Program at Kaweah Health.
• Round on a high-volume newborn census in a level I nursery.
• Provide inpatient care on a 12‑bed pediatric unit.
• Evaluate pediatric patients through Emergency Department consultations.

Job Summary:

Valley Children’s Healthcare is seeking an experienced and collaborative pediatrician to serve as Medical Director of the Pediatric Hospitalist Program at Kaweah Health in Visalia, California.
This position offers the opportunity to lead and provide hands‑on clinical care within a community hospital while benefiting from the resources, subspecialty expertise, and regional network of Valley Children’s Healthcare. The Medical Director will help advance the delivery of high‑quality pediatric care, ensuring that children and families throughout the South Valley receive exceptional care close to home.

Job Description:

Position Highlights:

• Lead the Pediatric Hospitalist Program at Kaweah Health
• Round on a high-volume newborn census in a level I nursery
• Provide inpatient care on a 12‑bed pediatric unit
• Evaluate pediatric patients through Emergency Department consultations
• No delivery attendance required; Level III NICU on-site
• Consolidated scheduling consisting primarily of 24‑hour shifts with some 12‑hour shifts, offering fewer commuting days and greater flexibility outside of work
• Full time is 7 24‑hour shifts/month or 14 12‑hour shifts/month
• Coordinate escalation or transfer of patients requiring subspecialty or higher‑acuity care through the Valley Children’s network
• Help shape and strengthen pediatric care for children and families in Visalia and surrounding communities

Leadership Responsibilities:

• Provide clinical and strategic leadership for the Pediatric Regional Hospitalist Program at Kaweah Health
• Support consistent, evidence‑based standards for pediatric inpatient and newborn care
• Partner with hospital and medical staff leadership to strengthen quality, safety, and patient outcomes
• Promote collaboration among physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing teams, and hospital departments
• Participate in program development, performance improvement, and physician engagement initiatives
• Support the continued growth of pediatric services
• Serve as a liaison between Kaweah Health and Valley Children’s Healthcare

Qualifications:

• MD or DO degree: Board Certified in Pediatrics
• Ample experience in pediatric hospital medicine, including inpatient pediatric and newborn care
• Prior leadership experience strongly preferred
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and PALS certifications
• Eligible for California medical licensure
• Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, collaborative leadership, and community‑based care
