Job Summary

Weekdays and some weekends possible. Spanish speaking preferred but not required.

In a home care agency, the PCA/CNA is a paraprofessional member of the home care team who works directly under the supervision and direction of the Service Supervisor and provides various services for the client. The majority of which would be personal care and activities of daily living. In this role, you will work with our clients in their homes, helping them with basic personal hygiene and domestic tasks as needed, according to their requirements and limitations. You will provide compassionate care and assistance and document clients’ progress to help ensure their overall wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and have a minimum of a High School Diploma.
• Must have at least one year of experience in the healthcare profession preferred.
• Must be in good standing with the health care registry.
• Must have at minimum, two (2) satisfactory references from previous employers.
• Current certificate in first aid and CPR preferred.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable automobile, and current auto insurance required.
• Minimum one year of experience working in a health care setting.
• Must display good emotional health and be able to physically tolerate much standing, bending, stooping, and heavy lifting within guidelines and teaching provided by the state of North Carolina.
• Must be able to read, follow written instructions and document the care given.
• Should demonstrate flexibility in acceptance of assignments and a cooperative attitude toward providing services.
• Must meet all agency requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks only under supervision of a Registered Nurse, who has provided written instructions for client care (POC).
• Assist client in all activities of daily living/hygiene assistance: bathing, grooming, linen changes as outlined in the POC.
• Prepare nutritious meals within the patient’s diet and assist client with eating when necessary.
• Have experience with dementia and sundowning.
• Perform light housekeeping chores to facilitate client’s self‑care in the home.
• Assist client in bathroom, with the use of the bedpan and perform incontinence care.
• Answer client’s calls and attend to their requests promptly.
• Meet the safety needs of the client and use equipment safely and properly.
• Maintain a clean and well‑kept vehicle to transport client for daily activities.
• Complete records and carry out all assignments as required.
• Notify Service Supervisor or Director of any acute or pertinent changes in a client’s condition.
• Communicate availability to work to the coordinator on a weekly basis or as requested.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding the client’s condition and his/her family, with the exception of the Agency.
• Perform all skills and procedures competently and within the regulations and licensing laws of the state, agency policies, and other applicable federal and state laws.
