Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

To operate the Switchboard/PBX telephones to provide routine information and direct call to appropriate areas.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Performs function of information clerk.
  2. Performs function of Switchboard Operator.
  3. Documents in the departmental logs as appropriate.
  4. Performs clerical duties as assigned.
  5. Participates in CQI studies as assigned
  6. Required to have flexibility of schedule in order to meet the needs of the patient and family members for purpose of discharge planning, counseling, etc.
  7. Occasionally may require overtime.
  8. Performs other assigned duties as required.

  • Ability to assess the needs of a job and adjust accordingly.
  • Ability to follow and understand written and oral instructions.
  • Able to get along with coworkers, visitors, supervisors, etc.
  • Maintains a professional level of conduct and appearance.
  • Practices good public and guest relations by displaying a friendly and cheerful manner.
  • Displays good judgement and tact when dealing with complaints and situations where the policies of the hospital are being enforced.

  • Adheres to policy and procedures as set forth by the hospital.

  • Assists patient and their families in their needs.
  • Ability to multitask.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force often and negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, putt or otherwise move objects. Minimal sedentary work but involves much standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling and climbing with frequency. May on occasion require lifting up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

REASONING DEVELOPMENT:

Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems.

MATHEMATICAL DEVELOPMENT:

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure.

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT:

Reading: Read and understand instructions, manuals, etc.

Writing: Be able to write simple basic reports as needed.

Speaking: Be able to speak with poise, voice control, and confidence, using correct English and well-modulated voice.

RELATIONSHIPS TO DATA, PEOPLE AND THINGS:

Data: Coordinating: Determining time, place, and sequence of operations or action to taken on the basis of analysis of data; executing determination of and/or reporting on events.

People: Speaking-Signaling: Talking with and/or people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions and/or directions to helpers, assistants, or co-workers.

QUALIFICATION:

To do this job you must have the following amount of total education required:

  • High School graduate or GED preferred.
  • Switchboard experience in a hospital setting preferred.
