Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. (GTA) is seeking a talented Payroll Specialist to join our team in Abingdon, Maryland. In this role, you’ll manage and lead day‑to‑day payroll processing while helping us modernize and streamline processes. You’ll work closely with both the Accounting and Human Resources teams to support compliance, reporting, and reconciliations, and play an active role in the evaluation of HRIS systems. This is an excellent opportunity for an analytical and detail‑oriented professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment and is motivated by continuous improvement.

The Payroll Specialist core hours are Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM. This position will be based in the office for the first 6 months, after which a hybrid schedule (up to 2 remote days per week) may be available at the supervisor’s discretion.

What You’ll Do
  • Process payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain payroll records for new hires, terminations, benefits, and adjustments.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support reporting, audits, and compliance with tax and labor regulations.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to improve processes and systems.
  • Assist in the RFP and selection process for a new HRIS/payroll system.
  • Cross‑train in other key areas of the business. Exposure to more than just payroll!
Requirements
  • 2+ years of payroll experience (multi‑state preferred).
  • Knowledge of payroll laws and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Excel and usage of a payroll/HRIS system (ADP, UKG, Workday, Paycor).
  • Analytical mindset – comfortable working with manual processes but eager to improve them.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator and team collaborator.
