Job summary

Ryder System, Inc. in Washington, DC is seeking a Payroll Coordinator to replace a resigning team member and ensure timely, accurate payroll across multiple states.

You will process weekly and semi-monthly payroll, handle deductions, and respond to employee questions with confidentiality. This full-time hourly role requires 3–5 years of payroll experience, multi-state processing, and strong written and verbal communication; Spanish bilingual preferred.

  • H.S. diploma/GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Inputs data to payroll systems to prepare weekly and semi-monthly payroll and runs pre-payroll audit reports.
  • Completes payroll processing activities, including wage calculations, deductions, and off-cycle payments.
  • Responds to employee and management payroll questions via email and phone.
  • Audits earnings and deductions and prepares reports for management.
  • Performs standard administrative tasks and maintains records.
  • Audits payroll information submitted by the field for accuracy and policy compliance.
  • Maintains confidentiality of employee and company data.

Job Description

This position is a replacement for a Payroll Coordinator who resigned effective immediately. Filling this position is necessary to maintain adequate staffing and coverage for critical payroll operations, ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, and minimize operational risk and workload disruption to the remaining team.

Essential Functions
  • Inputs data to computerized payroll systems to prepare Weekly and Semi-monthly payroll, including updating and adjusting employee earnings and deductions. Runs pre-payroll audit reports to ensure the accuracy of payroll output.
  • Completes payroll processing activities, such as: computes wage and overtime payments, calculates and records payroll deductions, and processes requests for off-cycle payments. Calculates overpayments and prepares repayment agreements.
  • Answers complex questions (via email and phone) from employees and management regarding payroll matters. Ensures compliance with payroll policies and procedures.
  • May audit earnings and deduction totals, review system output (e.g., registers and reports), determine and correct out-of-balance conditions, and prepare special reports for management.
  • Performs standard administrative tasks, including answering phones, preparing reports, maintaining records, and tracking information using case management tool.
  • Audits and processes payroll information submitted by the field for accuracy, policy compliance, and completeness.
  • Maintains confidentiality of employee and company data.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Processes payroll for approximately 5,000 to 7,000 employees across multiple states
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • H.S. diploma/GED required
  • Three (3) years or more Three to five (3-5) years of experience in payroll and/or finance, accounting, or related field. required
  • Three (3) years or more Multi-state payroll processing required
  • Other Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) and/or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation, preferred

Compensation Information

Pay Type: Hourly

Minimum Pay Range: $25.00

Maximum Pay Range: $29.00
